Conservation Worker – Summer Youth Job

Location: Moose Creek, ON, and work from home
Duration: 9 weeks
Hours: 30 hours/week
Compensation: $20/hour
Start Date: Early-mid May 2025 (flexible)

We are looking for someone to assist with habitat restoration, species monitoring, and public outreach at the Butternut Creek Nature Reserve in Moose Creek, ON (45 minutes east of Ottawa).

If you enjoy working outdoors, possess excellent writing and observation skills, and have a strong interest in the natural world, this job may be for you! Experience is not necessary, but a passion for the environment and for biodiversity and species protection is essential!

Position Responsibilities
Habitat Restoration
ï‚· Participate in on-the-ground conservation work, including tree
planting, invasive species removal, and installation of nest boxes and
other habitat features.
Species Monitoring
ï‚· Assist with ecological monitoring in a newly constructed wetland area,
as well as grassland and forest. This includes bird counts and
identification, amphibian and reptile surveys, and data collection.
Community Outreach
ï‚· Contribute to outreach initiatives such as social media updates, the
development of educational materials, assistance with public
presentations, and support in organizing community events related to
conservation.

Qualifications
ï‚· A strong interest in environmental protection and habitat restoration
ï‚· Computer skills necessary to enter data
ï‚· Ability to generate social media content and to write well
ï‚· Strong observation skills
ï‚· Comfort working outdoors, independently and in various weather
conditions and terrains
ï‚· Attention to detail and consistency in collecting and entering data

ï‚· A willingness to familiarize themselves with species ID and counting
aps such as Merlin, E-bird, and iNaturalist

Eligibility
This position is funded through a youth employment program and is open
to applicants aged 15 to 30.
We invite applicants from Indigenous backgrounds to self-identify in their

Job will combine remote and on-site work; reliable transportation is
required.
